Home Is Where the Journey Begins

Some places shape who we are.

They become part of our identity, grounding us no matter how far we roam. For Melissa, that place will always be West Virginia.

She describes it as more than just home. It's where her roots run deep, where her story began, and where she knows it will one day come full circle.

As she beautifully puts it:

"I was born here, and when I die, I will be buried here. In the meantime, watch out, world... here I come!"

That balance between loving home and embracing adventure is what makes Melissa's story so inspiring.

Together with her sister, they've adopted a simple but powerful philosophy: "We live in West Virginia, and we'll die in West Virginia, but we'll see the world in the meantime." It's a reminder that loving where you come from doesn't mean staying in one place. Sometimes, having strong roots gives you the confidence to spread your wings.

Their shared motto, Montani Semper Liberi—"Mountaineers Are Always Free"—captures that spirit perfectly. Freedom isn't about leaving home behind. It's about carrying it with you wherever you go.

Every Wander Club token Melissa collects represents another chapter of that journey. Each one tells the story of a new destination, a new adventure, and another reminder that the world is full of places worth exploring. Yet every trip also deepens her appreciation for the place waiting for her when she returns.

Because sometimes the farther we travel, the more clearly we understand what home truly means.

Melissa, thank you for sharing your story with us. Your love for home, your adventurous spirit, and your reminder to explore while we can perfectly capture what The Wander Club is all about: honoring where we've been, celebrating where we're going, and carrying every meaningful memory with us along the way.
