Wanderer of the Week: Susan

The Stories We Never Want to Forget

Sometimes the most meaningful souvenirs aren't the ones we bring home from a trip. They're the stories that stay with us long after.

For Susan, what started as a simple birthday gift for her husband became something far more powerful than she ever imagined.

Years ago, she gifted him his first Wander Club tokens. He loved them immediately. But it wasn't until one ordinary day at home that Susan realized just how much they would come to mean to their family.

She overheard her husband talking with their grown children, sharing stories inspired by the tokens in his collection. One memory led to another. Adventures from decades ago came rushing back. Places he'd visited. Experiences he'd lived. Moments their children had never heard before.

"It warmed my heart," Susan shared.

So she kept adding to the collection. Not just because they loved to travel, but because every token seemed to unlock another piece of his story.

Today, those memories carry even greater meaning.

Susan's husband now lives with dementia, and the collection has become a beautiful way to help him reconnect with moments from his past. Each token serves as a small reminder of places he's been, experiences he's cherished, and stories that deserve to be remembered.

What began as a travel keepsake slowly became something much deeper: a bridge to treasured memories.

Then last year, something unexpected happened.

While looking through his baseball stadium tokens, he casually mentioned that he'd never attended an Opening Day game.

For a lifelong Tigers fan, it was a surprising realization. The very next thing Susan did was buy tickets. Living in San Diego, they planned a special trip to see the Padres face the Tigers on Opening Day.

A passing comment. A simple memory. A new adventure created because of it.

It's a beautiful reminder that travel isn't always about discovering somewhere new. Sometimes it's about honoring the dreams that have quietly waited in the background for years.

And sometimes the memories we've collected inspire the next ones we'll make.
Their adventures continue today.

Recently, Susan, her husband, and their family returned from a ten-day vacation through Italy. One of her favorite photos captures the family stepping off the plane in Naples, standing together at the beginning of another chapter they'll remember forever.

Because that's what makes travel so special. It's rarely just about the destination. It's about the stories shared around dinner tables. The memories passed down to children. The moments that reconnect us to who we are and the people we love most.

For Susan and her family, their collection tells the story of a life well lived. A life filled with baseball games, family vacations, meaningful conversations, and memories worth holding onto.

And perhaps most importantly, it reminds us that some memories deserve a little help staying close.

Susan, thank you for sharing your story with us. Your journey is a beautiful reminder that the places we've been become part of who we are, and that preserving those memories can be one of the greatest gifts we give ourselves and the people we love.
