A Friendship Worth Celebrating: Beth & Shannon’s Story

For Beth and her best friend Shannon, that story is one of deep friendship, courage, and celebration.
Beth and Shannon’s friendship began more than 30 years ago, back in junior high. They’ve grown up side by side, through every season of life.
And when Shannon was diagnosed with lupus ten years ago, Beth’s response was simple but powerful: to celebrate her best friend’s life, strength, and spirit through travel.
She told her, “I wish I could take your lupus away…but since I can’t, I’m going to take YOU away instead.”
That’s how their annual “Bestie Birthday Trips” were born. Each year, during Shannon’s birthday week, the two choose a new destination to explore together.
From London to Madrid, Hawaii to Costa Rica, and so many places in between — their adventures aren’t always glamorous, but they’re always filled with gratitude, laughter, and love.
What started as a heartfelt gesture of love turned into a beautiful tradition: one that has now spanned over a decade, countless memories, and even more laughter.
“Traveling is like therapy for us. Each trip is a reminder that no matter what life throws our way, we’ll always have these moments to look back on.”
Their bond goes far beyond the miles they’ve traveled. Shannon stood by Beth’s side as her maid of honor and has become the loving godmother to Beth’s three children.
For Beth, The Wander Club tokens have become a collection of much more than destinations.
“They’re little reminders of all the joy we’ve collected together. Each token marks a time we chose adventure and friendship over fear and pain.”
